Railway Resilience: Supporting Yourself and Others

Strengthening wellbeing, confidence, and compassionate support across the railway network.

About the Training

Railway staff work in an environment that is fast-paced, public-facing, and often unpredictable. Shift work, challenging interactions, and exposure to critical incidents can all affect mental health and emotional resilience.

"Railway Resilience: Supporting Yourself and Others" is a half-day interactive training programme designed specifically for railway professionals. It equips staff with the skills to recognise signs of mental health challenges, engage in supportive conversations, and maintain their own wellbeing — helping to create a safer, more connected, and more compassionate railway community.

Why This Training Matters

Mental health is essential to everyday functioning, yet many people feel unable to talk about it due to stigma or fear of judgement. Within the railway environment, this silence can lead to increased stress, reduced performance, and a lack of support when it’s needed most.

This training helps to:

  • Build a proactive, supportive culture
  • Encourage open conversations about mental health
  • Strengthen team cohesion and morale
  • Reduce absenteeism and burnout
  • Improve customer experience through confident, compassionate staff
  • By empowering individuals to look after themselves and others, the programme contributes to a healthier, safer railway network.

The session blends practical tools, guided reflection, and real-world railway scenarios. Key content includes:
